- ➤ Officials from Summit Metro Parks, Cuyahoga Falls police and Falls Fire said the search for 27 year old Patrick Cross, who went missing in the Cuyahoga River on June 21 after an inflatable capsized, continues as drone flights and dredging near Gorge Dam are underway + more than 100 volunteers recently joined the effort. - ➤ U.S. Marshals arrested 18-year-old Jaiden Palmer on Wednesday in the 1900 block of Shaw Avenue for allegedly shooting a 39-year-old Uber driver from Bedford 6 times on Stanford Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. last week while picking up passengers — he now faces charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery. - ➤ Seventeen Summit County school districts have set their first days for the 2025–26 school year—at Akron Public Schools, STEM High School students will begin classes on Aug 13–15 with most students starting on Aug 21 while other districts open between Aug 18 and Aug 28. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Akron City Council approved applying for a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration grant to fund a $1.4 million project at Akron Fulton Airport that will replace Taxiway P and buy a new broom truck—construction and equipment arrival are set for 2027. The council also approved contracts for small-business support and ambulance purchase, and set additional items for review at their July 28 meeting. Akron.com
- ➤ Summit County Emergency Management Agency held a full-scale hazardous materials training exercise at the Conrail Yard to simulate a leaking tanker rail car. Local first responders practiced using a Norfolk Southern Safety Train and coordinated with Macedonia police, fire, and service departments — a drill aimed at improving unified command in emergencies — officials stated. - ➤ Summit County opened a new 40,000-square-foot Board of Elections facility at 1050 E. Tallmadge Ave in Akron on July 15—featuring an early vote center, in-house ballot printing, and updated poll book equipment to cut costs and improve security.
