- ➤ Community groups have announced a series of charity events in Akron and nearby areas from today through October. Lifebanc will host its 2025 Gift of Life Walk & Run at Porthouse Theatre at Blossom Music Center on Aug 10 while local organizers hold a Humane Society car raffle, an Akron Municipal Court Clothing Drive from July 30 to Aug 2, and other fundraisers to support outreach and education programs. - ➤ Akron Fire Department responded to a house fire in West Akron on Thursday evening and found 59-year-old Lisa Geter unresponsive inside her home—she was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where she was pronounced dead and two other residents were displaced—while investigators continue to check the cause. - ➤ On July 25, the Summit County Fair closed early after teenagers threw items, spread false rumors of a shooting, and sparked a fight that led to a juvenile’s arrest for using a taser—bag checks and restrictions were enforced as law enforcement responded to keep the fair safe.
