  • Ohio electric bills are expected to rise as the latest PJM auction set a capacity price of $329.17 per megawatt/day—up from about $270 in the previous auction. The new price will likely add 1.5% to 5% to bills next year as regulators and power producers work to balance supply and demand.  News 5 Cleveland

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Akron Public Schools relies on $4.2 million in federal funds to support its English as a Second Language program that served over 2,000 students last year. District officials said the funds help maintain quality learning services and prevent job losses for up to 21 full-time employees—protecting resources for non-native English speakers.  Signal Akron

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A former lieutenant filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the Summit County Sheriff’s Office after he said his career was derailed when he tried to expose unsafe jail practices—he faced threats, isolation, and impossible tasks before turning to 19 Investigates, which led to an officer’s firing and spurred new law proposals. The suit, filed in April by Charles Mashburn, alleges retaliation and calls for reform and better oversight within the department.  Cleveland 19 News
