  • Akron native Doug Preisse, a sixth-generation descendant of signer John Hart, learned of his famous heritage after noticing a portrait during a family road trip. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, 29 new police officers graduated from the Akron Police Academy at the Akron Civic Theater after nearly six months of training, with Mayor Shammas Malik administering the oath and pinning badges. Several officers will begin patrol duty on Sunday — the department’s effort to maintain staffing levels continues.  News 5 Cleveland
  • Akron City Council President Margo Sommerville, a winner of the 2025 National Foundation for Women Legislators Backpack Program, will host an event on Sept. 20 at the Helen Arnold Community Learning Center where 100 children from kindergarten to eighth grade will receive backpacks filled with school supplies — families are urged to arrive early because supplies are limited.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Ohio lawmakers requested changes to the state’s E—Check program that would end the required biennial emissions testing for vehicles 6—25 years old in seven counties.
