  • Akron marks its 200-year history with events that shaped the city — in 1825, settler Pliny Wilcox died near Perkins Hill; in 1875, Prockie Coggeshall, daughter of Ambassador William T. Coggeshall, enjoyed a local vacation; in 1925, Goodyear planned a new factory; in 1975, Mayor John S. Ballard vetoed a measure on computer checkouts; and in 2000, West Point Market said goodbye to longtime CEO Russ Vernon, whose last day was set for Sept. 30.  Akron Beacon Journal
