ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Sunday around 11:42 a.m. on I-71 near Westfield Township when a speeding Akron driver in a 2016 Chrysler 200 hit a Ford F-250 hauling a trailer, causing it to overturn, fly over a bridge overpass, and eject a 52-year-old Painesville woman who later died while the truck’s driver was treated at Akron City Hospital.  News 5 Cleveland

CRIME NEWS

  • A 26-year-old woman (Corvette Pope) was sentenced Monday in Summit County Court after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and obstructing justice when she shot 24-year-old Paige Calich on July 28 at a home on Socrates Place, leaving Calich’s three-year-old son unharmed.  Cleveland 19 News

  • Akron’s 13th annual PorchRokr will take over Highland Square on Saturday, Aug. 16 with headliner Akronauts set to perform on the main stage at 7:30 p.m. The festival will feature dozens of acts on multiple stages, with music ranging from rock and pop to folk and hip hop—each act’s time and location is planned for the day.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • The Farmers’ Almanac forecast for winter in Ohio predicts very cold and snowy conditions starting New Year’s Day with brisk winds and heavy snowfall expected later—after a major snowstorm is forecast from February 8th to 11th—guiding residents to prepare for an old-fashioned winter.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park uses eight autonomous recording units — including two at Beaver Marsh — to track birds, frogs, and toads as part of a wetlands restoration project that will run through 2027 while volunteers help maintain the equipment.  Akron Beacon Journal
