- ➤ Akron is accepting applications for two grant programs that support local neighborhood businesses by offering up to $20K for façade improvements and up to $5K for small enterprises — the programs are for businesses in 13 Great Streets districts with a deadline of Sept. 30. Cleveland.com

- ➤ Broadway actor Marcus Martin, known for his role as the Genie in Aladdin, will return home to Akron on August 23 for a cabaret fundraiser at Weathervane Playhouse to support the WMTC Scholarship Fund—he will also host a master class for students on August 22.
