  • This weekend, Akron-Fulton Airport will host the Props and Pistons Festival—an air show running Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. where visitors can tour planes and watch fly-over demonstrations.  iHeartMedia

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Akron is accepting applications for two grant programs that support local neighborhood businesses by offering up to $20K for façade improvements and up to $5K for small enterprises — the programs are for businesses in 13 Great Streets districts with a deadline of Sept. 30.  Cleveland.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Broadway actor Marcus Martin, known for his role as the Genie in Aladdin, will return home to Akron on August 23 for a cabaret fundraiser at Weathervane Playhouse to support the WMTC Scholarship Fund—he will also host a master class for students on August 22. This event marks his return to the theater where he began his career when he was a teenager.  Akron Beacon Journal

FINANCE NEWS

  • Nobody won the $501 million Powerball jackpot on Monday as the Ohio Lottery confirmed a $100,000 prize sold at Gonzalez Grocery in Lorain—other winners in the state received prizes from $14 up to $1 million, and the jackpot climbs to $526 million for the drawing tonight at 10:59 p.m.  WKYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT District Four completed its largest project in history with the $160 million Akron Beltway work that rebuilt more than 45 miles and added three new bridges along with improved ramps at the I-76 and Route 8 interchange.   • The City of Akron is seeking a developer to repurpose the 109-year-old former Akron Public Schools headquarters building at 70 N. Broadway St—developers must submit proposals by 4 p.m. Sept. 11 to create a downtown asset instead of demolition.  Signal Akron
