- ➤ Cleveland Clinic Children's has a new garden at 676 S. Broadway St. in Akron where patients and residents learn about gardening and healthy eating while Dr. Maureen Ahmann shows kids how to pick and enjoy free fruits and vegetables — the garden is open to all community members. - ➤ At a free laundry event held at West Side Laundromat in West Akron on August 14, the city provided free washing and drying for up to three loads per household while over five tons of laundry were processed and firefighters served hotdogs and hamburgers. Tameka Thornton—a community volunteer who works at United Purpose Mortgage—said the event eases household burdens + supports local residents with donated detergent from D-A Speciality Co. - ➤ A freshman football player on the Tuscarawas Valley High School team was paralyzed after a collision during the Trojans’ first game at Waynedale Friday night—he fractured his C4 vertebra, had surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital Saturday, and the school plans a white-out tribute on Aug. 29. - ➤ Akron Pride—started in Hardesty Park in 2017—took over downtown on August 23 as the event celebrated a 'United as One' theme. The parade along Main Street featured DJs, drag performers, musician David Archuleta, local officials, and faith groups marching to show love and acceptance. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Summit County will hold a property tax program and veteran ID clinic on Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kenmore Community Center (880 Kenmore Blvd) where Fiscal Officer Kristen M. - ➤ The new owners of Quaker Square plan to redevelop the historic property into a mix of housing, retail, and event spaces while keeping the original design charms intact—using ideas like a hotel reopening and community events to revive downtown Akron.
