- ➤ An Akron man, Gerald Wilson, 30, was sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting Douglas Waters in a home over jealousy of the victim's girlfriend — he will be eligible for parole after 18 years. Cleveland.com
- ➤ Two people were arrested in connection with a police shooting near Case on August 28th—police say the investigation is ongoing. Cleveland 19 News
- ➤ Barberton man Alexander Beattie was sentenced to 18 years in prison on August 28th for using a 3D printer to make ghost guns and for downloading around 1,000 images and videos of child pornography—federal prosecutors said he sold the untraceable weapons to felons and undercover agents. - ➤ The 10th annual Rubber City Blues & Jazz Festival will run from Sept. 4–6 in downtown Akron + over 30 artists will perform at venues like the Akron Art Museum and Lock 3. Most events are free, but a ticketed concert by Kirk Whalum is scheduled at Lock 3 on Sept. 6 from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Summit County had two winners in the Powerball game when an Akron resident's auto-pick ticket from Circle K on South Arlington Road won $2 million by matching five numbers with a Powerplay option on Aug. 27—another Fairlawn resident won $50,000 on Aug. 25 with a ticket from MAPCO. - ➤ Officials reported that dredging to remove toxic sediment behind the Gorge Dam will begin in two weeks as part of a $130M project funded with federal and state money—removal of the dam will follow and enable the river to flow freely for the first time in 100 years. Akron Beacon Journal
