- ➤ Police are investigating a shooting near the University of Akron campus — a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were injured shortly before midnight Saturday on East Exchange Street and investigators urge anyone with information to contact police. iHeartMedia

- ➤ GasBuddy data shows that gas prices fell in Cleveland to $3.24 per gallon after a drop of 13.9 cents and in Akron to $3.10 after a decline of 26.6 cents in the last week. Cleveland’s rate remains 4.8 cents above last month while the national average is near $3.15 — a sign that prices are stabilizing as summer ends. WKYC

- ➤ On Aug. 26, about 200 Canton residents gathered at a Plumbers and Pipefitters union hall to hear Rep. Emilia Sykes, an Akron native representing Ohio’s 13th district. She warned that redistricting later this year may shift resources and political focus in Akron—adding to concerns about large campaign spending and national map changes. News 5 Cleveland
- ➤ Ohio lawmakers approved eight new laws that will change rules on building inspections, arrest quotas, hunting licenses, waste handling, cybersecurity and driver education. The changes — including tighter appeal deadlines for inspections, a ban on arrest quotas, and a lower age for discounted licenses — will take effect Sept. 30. WKYC

- ➤ Summit County Public Health inspected many food places in August and found several had serious code violations that may lead to penalties. Hyde Out in Akron had 17 violations—the highest count—while other locations like Toko BBQ and Waterloo Restaurant and Catering reported between 7 and 9 issues that could trigger further action.
