- ➤ The Women’s History Project of the Akron Area is accepting nominations for the 2026 Woman of the Year Award until Nov. 1 and will honor local women on March 25 at St. George Fellowship Center—recognizing their community contributions. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ DeCheco's Pizzeria opened a new takeout-only location in Hudson on Sept. 10—where customers watched the kitchen make pies and sides while the white pizza became the top seller. The owner will open two more shops in Munroe Falls and Cuyahoga Falls before Thanksgiving, and the menu also features loaded jo-jos, desserts, and ice cream. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Academy Award winner and Akron native Paul Tazewell will speak at Kent State University’s School of Fashion on Thursday, September 18 at 6 p.m. at Cartwright Hall to discuss his celebrated work on Wicked and his career in costume design. His costumes are on display at the KSU Museum from today through early November — offering insight into his journey from Akron to Broadway. Cleveland.com
- ➤ The Akron school board debate will be held Oct. 8 at Quaker Station on S. Broadway St—eight invited candidates will answer questions from local journalists while a livestream airs on media partners’ websites. The event, organized by Akron Decides—a group including the Akron Press Club, Akron Beacon Journal, Ideastream Public Media and Signal Akron—offers a buffet lunch for a fee and free seating for those watching. - ➤ Firestone Community Learning Center in Akron banned metal water bottles on Sept. 8 after officials said the opaque bottles delay security checks and may hide prohibited items—students protested the rule with clanging bottles and a petition with 250 signatures, arguing it burdens their hydration needs.
