- ➤ Activists from People Over Polymers and Akron Community Action Network plus other local groups will host a meeting on Sept. 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Zion Temple Baptist Church at 515 Ardella Ave to let East Akron residents voice concerns over Alterra Energy's pending air permit renewal after a downtown hearing drew strong opposition. - ➤ Akron native Paul Tazewell, an Oscar, Tony and Emmy winning costume designer, will speak at Kent State University on Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at the University Auditorium in Cartwright Hall — he will also work with students and join a public discussion while two of his designs are on display in the museum until Nov. 9. - ➤ The University of Akron will demolish the Lincoln Building in the second quarter of 2026 to build a new Polymer Industry Cluster facility next to the National Polymer Innovation Center. The project is funded by $31.25 million from Ohio’s Department of Development and $10.4 million from local partners—part of a plan that moves more staff to the downtown Polsky building and boosts Akron’s role in polymer innovation. - ➤ The University of Akron announced its fall enrollment reached 15,318 students—a 3.4% rise over fall 2024—and said stronger numbers in undergraduate, graduate, law and College Credit Plus programs helped drive the increase. - ➤ Ohio hummingbirds will soon begin migrating south to Mexico and Central America as daylight decreases, and experts advise keeping feeders up through October if birds continue to visit—feeders help provide the energy needed for the long flight.
