Good morning, Akron.

Akron Documenters explored the city’s 24 neighborhoods to show residents' pride in local parks, historic landmarks, and unique touches like fairy gardens—while also noting challenges such as vacant homes and limited services.

The report highlights community stories that reveal both creative spirit and calls for improved neighborhood support.

As Akron celebrates its bicentennial, a review of local history recalls that in 1825 Masons dedicated a canal lock stone—1875 saw a diner open with abundant meals, 1925 the city bought a dam and feeder race for water, 1975 a fire at Akron Square led to looting, and 2000 Goodyear named a new executive.

Enrollment at the University of Akron increased by 3.4% to 15,318 students this fall—marking its largest growth since 2021 with transfer and first-year numbers rising over 10% and 9.7% respectively.

The gain followed challenging adjustments to faculty and programs amid recent shifts in state education policy.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward-center Larry Nance Jr. helped raise money at Swensons to benefit Akron Public Schools on September 13—this fundraiser supported local education and community involvement.

The Browns dropped to 0-2 after a 41-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on September 14—Myles Garrett recorded 3.5 sacks and Quinshon Judkins showed promise while the offensive line and cornerback depth struggled.
