- ➤ Legendary comedian Steve Martin, 80, cancelled his Virginia Beach show on September 19 and his Richmond show on September 20 after testing positive for COVID-19—refunds were offered to ticket buyers. He and Martin Short are scheduled to perform at the Akron Civic Theatre on November 20. FOX 8
- ➤ Akron celebrated its bicentennial by looking back at key moments in its history—with events in 1825 when a printing press carried by two-horse wagons printed the city’s first newspaper; in 1875 when a hot-air balloon crashed during a fair; in 1925 when freshmen wore green skull caps at the University; in 1975 when Up With People performed at Chapel Hill Mall; and in 2000 when the Professional Bowlers Association moved to Seattle. - ➤ The Barberton Community Foundation received an $80,400 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to fund a study on training for advanced manufacturing in Barberton. The study will work with local industry and schools to address skill gaps in polymer technology and smart manufacturing — and it may attract up to $50 million in private investment over time.
