- ➤ The John Brown Monument was rededicated at the Akron Zoo on Sunday in a ceremony attended by about 100 people who honored the anti-slavery leader with speeches and music. Officials from the zoo, city, and local historical society announced a plan—set to reopen the monument for public visits within the next year. Signal Akron

- ➤ Akron Public Schools hired Wayne Bowers as full-time treasurer on Friday — he had served as interim since July and will work to address a financial crisis that is expected to lead to a deficit of more than $45 million by 2028. Signal Akron
