- ➤ Today, Ohio’s outdoor burning restrictions take effect as open burning is banned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in October, November, March, April and May — this measure aims to curb wildfire risks amid dry, windy conditions and reminds residents to follow safe practices. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The National Park Service in Cuyahoga Valley National Park will begin controlled burns in four areas—the Richfield Coliseum site along Route 303, Terra Vista Natural Study Area, an area in Boston Township, and Brookside Wetland—to remove invasive plants, improve soil, and lower wildfire risks, with work planned to be completed by May. Park fire experts will assess conditions before starting to ensure smoke does not impact nearby roads and properties. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Akron is holding clean-up events for its Bicentennial Beautification Initiative — the first are on Oct. 4 in South Akron from 8 to 10 a.m., West Akron from 8 to 10 a.m. and Kenmore from 10 a.m. to noon; later events on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 will have more volunteers signing up as Keep Akron Beautiful provides cleaning gear. - ➤ Akron will host the 2026 Northeast Regional Classic of the TFT Firefighter Challenge Championship Series from July 23 to 25 when firefighters from 13 states and across the nation will compete in a skills test at the Spaghetti Warehouse parking lot on S.
