Knight Center in Akron on October 1st — local leaders including Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and U.S. Congresswoman Emilia Sykes attended the event. - ➤ Today, a government shutdown begins and Social Security payments will still be made because they are not part of the federal budget—furloughs of about 6,200 workers may cause delays in processing new benefit applications at local offices, including Akron.
