- ➤ DeCheco’s Pizzeria, known for its signature White Pizza — a family tradition started by Shirley and continued by her son Nathan — is adding three new locations this year, with a Munroe Falls shop set to open on Oct. 6 and another planned for Cuyahoga Falls later this year. - ➤ The Smells Like Snow Coffee Festival will return to Lock 3 on Nov. 1 from noon to 7:30 p.m. as a Gilmore Girls-themed event featuring free admission, over a dozen coffee vendors, themed activities including autograph sessions with actors and a free concert by Grant-Lee Phillips — attendees can also explore art displays in the new gallery space. - ➤ Randy Quaid will appear at Akron Civic Theatre for a screening of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on Dec. 20 at 8 p.m.—he will hold a live Q&A after the film to share behind-the-scenes insights. - ➤ Akron Public Schools reached tentative three-year agreements with three units of SEIU Local 1 after nearly six months of negotiations. Child nutrition and safety workers ratified their contracts while maintenance, transportation and custodial employees will vote on Oct. 12 before the board reviews the agreement on Oct. 20—terms like pay increases and health insurance changes were not disclosed. - ➤ Ohio insurers have proposed premium hikes for 2026 coverage—ranging from 2.5% to 42%—as tax credits that help lower costs may expire if Congress does not act. Open enrollment begins Nov. 1 and many Ohioans could see their premiums double if the credits are not extended. News 5 Cleveland
