  • Six family-friendly spots in Northeast Ohio offer pumpkin picking and fall fun with corn mazes, wagon rides, and other activities available through the end of October (each location sets its own pricing and hours). Visitors can check pumpkins for a deep orange color, a hollow sound, and a firm stem to find the perfect selection.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron will host free community events on Oct. 11 with the Blue Heron Homecoming at Akron Water Reclamation Facility from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering family fun, food, live music and a 5K, while the Akron Oatmeal Festival at Cascade Locks Park from noon to 5 p.m. will feature food trucks, vendors and live entertainment.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • On Oct. 1, 2025, Angel Falls Coffee Company in Highland Square said the price of a basic cup stayed unchanged despite tariffs—local owner Jim King confirmed the decision.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Summit Metro Parks and the Portage Path Collaborative are hosting a guided history walk from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. along the Portage Path from Big Bend Trailhead to its northern end to learn about how local waterways were linked—later at 1:30 p.m. members of the Northern Cheyenne will lead a 1-kilometer walk with drumming in regalia that ends at the John Brown House for additional exhibits.  Akron Beacon Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dry weather has helped trees such as hickories, pawpaws, and dogwoods show early fall colors, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said that the far northeast is nearing peak viewing while other areas remain green. ODNR forecasters will continue weekly monitoring — updating conditions as the season unfolds.  FOX 8

FINANCE NEWS

  • No ticket won the $520 million Mega Millions jackpot on Oct. 3, but thousands of winners shared smaller prizes ranging from $20,000 to $10. The jackpot now climbs to $547 million—with a cash option of $251.7 million—for the drawing on Oct. 7.  WKYC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The planning commission approved a 19,895 square foot Aldi grocery store on Graham Road in Stow where the former Save A Lot stood. City Council will review the plan on Oct. 9 — developers will upgrade the plaza facade as part of the project.  Akron Beacon Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, Dillon Gabriel makes his NFL regular-season debut for the Browns in London, a game that follows a long flight reminiscent of his earlier trips from Hawaii—he said his team prepared him well during a brief walkthrough before the contest against the Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.  Akron Beacon Journal
