- ➤ Firefighters battled a fire at a local Wendy’s on Mogadore Road Sunday afternoon and the building was empty with no injuries reported—crews quickly put out the flames though the cause remains unknown. Cleveland 19 News

- ➤ Killer Video will present nearly three hours of horror shorts at the Akron Civic Theatre during the Akron Independent Horror Short Film Festival on Oct. 11 — film and vendor events open from 4 to 6 and screenings run from 6 to 8:30 followed by an awards ceremony. Signal Akron
- ➤ Liz Murphy, the former owner of Learned Owl and recently retired executive director of Destination Hudson, spoke about the value of bookstores in a local interview. She explained that these stores play a key role in keeping community ties strong. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ Summit County has moved early voting to a new Board of Elections location at 1050 E. Tallmadge Ave. so residents can cast ballots in person starting Tuesday, Oct. 7. The new $15 million facility has more parking and a weather shelter — located near Ohio Means Jobs and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles — to help voters quickly access services. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Ohio's property tax reform group released 20 proposals that support bills to limit levy growth and adjust tax collections+ the ideas act as a counterproposal to Governor DeWine's vetoes.
