  • Summit Artspace—located at 140 E. Market St.—is undergoing $1M renovations that update spaces, systems, and studio areas while preserving historic elements, and it remains closed until early 2026. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eight candidates are running for four Akron Board of Education seats as Election Day on November 4 nears—three are incumbents and five are new faces with experience in finance, teaching and community work. The winners will serve a four-year term starting in January and take on challenges such as budget pressures and major school projects.  Signal Akron

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, early in-person voting begins at the Summit County Board of Elections at 1050 E. Tallmadge Ave. in Akron from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and voters can also request absentee ballots online until Oct. 28—ballots must be mailed in time for the Nov. 4 election.  Signal Akron

HEALTH NEWS

  • An investigation shows that emergency rooms in Northeast Ohio have long wait times, with Mercy Medical Center in Canton averaging 256 minutes and multiple University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic sites reporting similar delays—while Akron General’s wait of 2 hours 37 minutes did not rank among the worst. The study used data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to measure the time from check-in to leaving the ER.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Top Division I golfers from Greater Akron are set to compete in district tournaments this week after winning sectional championships—Hudson and Hoban teams led by juniors Ben Fauver and Ben Berridge earned key medalist honors.
