  • Coventry Crossing, home to about 900 residents near Firestone Metro Park and Firestone Country Club, is known for its natural beauty and family-friendly atmosphere (residents have lived in the area for generations).   • Signal Akron compiled nearly 20 Halloween events in Akron and Summit County that offer trick-or-treating, costume contests, film showings, and bar crawls—events scheduled from Oct. 17 to Oct. 31.   • Towpath Grille opened three days after Valley Cafe closed on Sept. 28 in Akron, offering the same popular foods and service under owner Andy Berkowitz (who once worked at The Baker's Dozen). The restaurant keeps Valley Cafe’s staff and vendors while planning to add housemade soups and a seasonal drink menu (with future improvements like an enclosed patio and smoker).  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Akron's Goodyear Theatre will host 'A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live on Stage' on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.—an adaptation of Charles M. Schulz's 1965 classic that features Vince Guaraldi's music and holiday carols by the Peanuts gang—offering a live event for all ages.  Cleveland.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Akron fell to $2.72 per gallon early Monday after dropping 24.5 cents, while Cleveland prices dropped 20.2 cents to $2.80. The national average dropped to $3.02 amid declines in over 40 states — experts say more price cuts could come as oil prices fall.  WKYC

FINANCE NEWS

  • One Northeast Ohio man won a $300,000 prize on a $10 scratch-off bought at Acme Fresh Market (Market Street) in Akron on Oct 13. He will receive $218,625 after state and federal taxes (reducing his payout), and the Ohio Lottery said 5 top prizes remain in the game.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 13, residents met at the Norton Community Center to ask about Project Triton, a proposed 485,000-square-foot data center at a 90-acre former limestone mine that may create up to 100 jobs. Developers said the facility will generate its own power and not strain the local grid — details were also available on the city's FAQ website.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A serious mosquito-borne illness called La Crosse is spreading across Ohio—forty cases have been reported so far—and doctors warn that young children are at high risk and advise using bug spray and wearing long clothing when mosquitoes are active.  FOX 8
  • Summit County dispatcher Madison Sharp (a veteran with nine years of experience) helped a couple deliver their baby girl on I-77 near US-224 on Oct 8 after the caller said his fiancée’s water had broken. Paramedics arrived quickly and both mother and baby were taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General (this call was the fourth active childbirth incident since SECC opened in 2023).  Akron Beacon Journal

  • The USA Today Network Ohio High School Football Super 25 Poll has released its rankings as the OHSAA regular season enters Week 9 — five Akron-area teams are named among Ohio’s top teams.
