- ➤ Goodyear CEO Mark Stewart, who moved with his husband from Detroit to Akron, said today that the tire maker will expand its Auto Service stores and support local workers even as it makes planned layoffs with full notice. - ➤ Akron-area artists Adam Hoffman and Jacob Bremkamp present 'Poe is Dead: A New Musical,' which opens today at 7:30 p.m. at Western Reserve Playhouse in Bath and will run again on Oct 18. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ODOT shifted southbound traffic onto the new Route 8 bridge over the Little Cuyahoga River this weekend—drivers using the Perkins exit must now take the far right lane. The agency will move northbound traffic in late November and begin demolishing the old bridge this winter as construction of the two four-lane bridges continues with full completion expected by summer 2028. - ➤ Larry Williams, a former Browns guard and Akron athletic director, died at 62 on Thursday morning while working out at the University of San Francisco’s War Memorial Gym—his cause of death has not yet been given. He led sports programs at several colleges, including Akron from 2015 to 2021—funeral arrangements will be announced later. WKYC
- ➤ Area golfers competed at the state tournament held Oct. 12 and 13 at Firestone Country Club, where Archbishop Hoban High School finished fifth in the Division I boys event with a score of 620 and Green tied for sixth with 627. Walsh Jesuit junior Kale Zurakowski finished 58th in the boys event plus the girls competition saw Walsh Jesuit finish fourth and Highland come in fifth. Akron.com
