- ➤ West Akron’s Garden City Church started a 3000 square foot community garden in Kenmore that gives free fruits and vegetables to people in need. Volunteers cleared the land and spent about $5000 to build the garden — they have given out more than 50 pounds of food — and plan to share more produce on Oct 19 and Oct 26. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Akron Honey has launched its new Yellow Brick Road District at 1036 Jefferson Ave, a community space created by owners Brent and Rebecca Wesley to host food + drink events. The venue features a mural funded by a $15,000 ArtsForward grant and will hold a family-friendly movie on Oct.25 along with chef and cookie tasting events in early November as part of plans to connect the neighborhood. - ➤ Akron will host a series of free forums to mark its bicentennial starting Oct. 22 with a discussion on the water system at the Akron-Summit County Public Library (60 S. High St.) and continuing with panels on Dr. Shirla R. McClain, immigrant communities, the Soap Box Derby, the Jewish community and urban renewal. - ➤ Coca-Cola Consolidated invested $35 million in a new production line at its Twinsburg Township facility that will add 40-new jobs and boost production by 6-million cases in 2025.
