- ➤ Residents in Mantua Township oppose an extension of the Headwaters Trail because it will cut through their yards and remove trees—raising concerns about privacy and safety. The park district will hire ODOT-approved consultants to review alternative routes while township trustees act on residents’ objections. Akron Beacon Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Akron's Polsky Building at the University of Akron is set for a $31 million makeover that will reconnect campus to downtown—bringing art galleries, an expanded E-Sports studio, and improved labs to the space. Construction will begin in January with work scheduled to finish in early 2027 so that nearly 2,000 students, faculty, and staff can enjoy closer ties to downtown. WKYC

- ➤ Summit County residents will vote on Nov. 4 on Issue 1, a proposed tax levy to renew and increase funding for the Summit ADM Board's treatment and prevention services. The levy will total 3.45 mills (2.95 mills renewal plus a 0.5-mill increase), costing about $75 a year per $100,000 of taxable value over six years. Signal Akron
- ➤ Today starts National School Bus Safety Week in Ohio—when the OSHP will step up enforcement of traffic laws to require drivers to stop for buses with flashing red lights, protecting students in school zones. The effort follows more than 6,200 reported bus crashes since 2020 and supports new safety upgrades for school buses. FOX 8

- ➤ Mike Buckner, the famed Buchtel football coach who changed the team in the 1970s, was inducted into the Akron Public Schools Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct 18 at Guy’s Party Center. - ➤ The Cleveland Browns — playing at home — met the Miami Dolphins in Cleveland on Oct. 19 under heavy rain and high winds; both teams with 1 to 5 records tried to end their losing streaks as analysts noted the Browns strong defense and the Dolphins struggle. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Browns beat the Dolphins in stormy weather by running the ball well and playing strong defense as coach Jim Schwartz used smart blitzes with cornerback Tyson Campbell returning an interception for a touchdown and safety Grant Delpit making key stops.
