  • A Twinsburg firefighter, Josh Jarzab, who rescued an 8-month-old baby during an August house fire, will be honored in New York City on Oct. 28 — National First Responders Day as he joins other heroes for the Roll Call of Heroes ceremony.  Akron Beacon Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Summit Mall in Fairlawn marks its 60th anniversary this month and has recently seen new stores like Lovisa and Nails So Dep by Ben open, with a photo exhibit highlighting its long history in the food court. Perfumania will open a store this holiday season and Kids Empire will open later this year, while Carhartt, J.Jill, and Dave's Hot Chicken are set to open in 2026—expanding the mall's retail options.  Akron Beacon Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • As temperatures drop, insects like boxelder bugs, brown marmorated stink bugs, Asian lady beetles, and western conifer seed bugs are moving into homes in Ohio in search of warmth—experts advise residents to seal gaps around windows, doors, and vents to keep them out.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, October 27, the ramp from Ghent Road to Interstate 77 southbound in Bath will be closed until July as part of an interstate widening project in Fairlawn and Bath—drivers must detour via Ghent Road to state Route 18 to access I-77; lane restrictions will continue on I-77 between Everett Road and the Ohio Turnpike.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • METRO RTA announced free rides on METRO Direct and METRO ADA services will be offered on Election Day, Nov. 4, Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2. The move is designed to remove transportation barriers for voters and show gratitude to veterans.  Akron Beacon Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Akron Public Schools AD Joe Vassalotti and Garfield coach Kemp Boyd expressed disappointment after the OHSAA changed Week 10 canceled football games to forfeit wins and losses — they said the decision, made amid health concerns over hand, foot and mouth disease, has left local teams confused and penalized as playoffs approach.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Akron quarterback Ben Finley led the Zips to a 24-16 win over the Buffalo Bulls on Oct. 25 with two touchdown passes and one rushing score—helping end a seven-game losing streak—while the defense forced five turnovers and gave Buffalo its first conference loss this season.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The 2-5 Browns will visit the 5-2 Patriots in Week 8 as experts predict a low-scoring game. Some experts forecast scores between Patriots 21-17 and 24-17—coach Mike Vrabel is credited for New England’s strong defense—while analysts worry the Browns may not score enough on the road.  Akron Beacon Journal
