- ➤ During the FURever Thankful adoption event, Summit County Animal Control is offering fully vetted dogs for $28 until Nov. 30—regular fees are usually $94 and each dog comes with a 2025 Summit County license, microchipping, bloodwork, flea treatment, deworming, and vaccinations. - ➤ As Akron celebrates its bicentennial, local history shows a founder’s son died in 1825 near South Broadway while suffragist Victoria Woodhull lectured at the Academy of Music in 1875 and a municipal golf course was set for public use in 1925 after a spring drought delayed its opening. Past events also include a 1975 election where Donald Plusquellic won over former councilman Robert Burdette and a 2000 arson at Patterson Park that caused $103,000 in damage. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ The full schedule for the 2025 OHSAA boys and girls soccer state tournaments has been released and includes four Akron-area teams—Hudson, Hoban, CVCA, and Aurora—that will meet in the semifinals. - ➤ Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan won his fourth consecutive Gold Glove Award in 2025 after posting 22 Defensive Runs Saved—leading all MLB outfielders—since his debut in 2022. He became only the fourth player in Cleveland baseball history to earn four straight Gold Gloves. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the complete schedule for the second round of football playoffs, where 336 teams compete and seeded teams host games on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. — the state finals will be held Dec. 4–6 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. - ➤ The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced second round football playoff pairings Sunday, including a local matchup where Akron Archbishop Hoban with an 8 to 1 record will host No. 9 Youngstown Boardman on Friday at 7 p.m.—four top seeds earned a bye last week and will host first round winners in the regional quarterfinals.
