COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a long line of cars gathered outside Barberton Area Community Ministries for a food giveaway after SNAP funding ended — officials expected a record turnout as local pantries work to fill the gap. The event served more than 300 families and shows efforts by community groups to help those in need.  FOX 8
  • Swensons began offering free kids meals for children under 18 in families that use SNAP benefits on November 5th and the offer will continue until November 12th. The promotion requires a valid SNAP/EBT card—no purchase is necessary.  FOX 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Stark County recorded the most deer-related crashes in Ohio with 3,235 accidents along U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 77 from 2020 until today—drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert as deer activity increases in November.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • A late-night fire at MAPS Air Museum destroyed a replica Vietnam-era tent at 2260 International Parkway — the City of Green Fire Department responded after Akron-Canton Airport alerted them at 11:15 p.m. on Monday — and officials confirmed no one was injured while damage was limited to the outdoor exhibit and two museum windows.  WKYC

  • Akron Comicon will take place at Emidio’s Expo Center in Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9—featuring pop culture figures such as Lost in Space actress Marta Kristen and former Marvel Comics art director Steve Geiger.  Cleveland.com

  • Three new members were elected to Akron’s public school board. Karmaya Kelly, Phil Montgomery and Nathan Jarosz promise to improve teamwork and communication and will begin their work in January — using their personal and professional experiences to serve students.  Signal Akron

  • Veterans Day 2025 falls on November 11 and is a federal holiday that will close federal offices, state services, banks, and post offices — though private carriers like FedEx and UPS will operate normally. HEALTH NEWS

  • Akron Children's Hospital is reporting rising RSV cases as the respiratory illness season begins and is offering new preventative therapy for pregnant patients while urging parents to check pertussis vaccinations.   • Norton beat Edgewood 63-13 in its playoff opener with key runs from Jason Beverly, Markus Browns and Trey Kersten — and will face West Branch on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. St. Marys Memorial ended Copley's season by winning 36-34 as Anderson Madden threw for 342 yards and Andrew McKnight caught 10 passes.  Akron.com
