GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Domestic violence survivor Diona Clark said she is grateful for Rep. Emilia Sykes’ support for stronger laws for survivors—she recalled standing with Sykes when Ohio House Bill 1 was signed in 2018. The congresswoman has reintroduced bills designed to improve shelter, counseling, and legal aid for those in need.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nearly 1 million Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco bottles sold at Costco were recalled after bottles shattered and caused one laceration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said — shoppers in Ohio are advised to discard the recalled bottles and contact Ethica Wines for refund instructions.  FOX 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fifteen Akron-area high school teams played in the OHSAA second-round playoffs on November 7—key matchups included Division II games between Hudson and Lake and between Nordonia and Walsh Jesuit. The results will help decide which teams move on to the state finals in December at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Tallmadge’s Allison Hay and Twinsburg’s Sam Hopp were named Akron-Area Athletes of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov. 2—Hay received 49.41% of votes while Hopp got 60.47% of 15,751 ballots; both earned All-Ohio honors at Fortress Obetz with Hopp placing 12th at the state meet. This recognition highlights strong cross country performances from both athletes.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Archbishop Hoban girls volleyball advanced to the OHSAA state tournament for the tenth time and played an 11 a.m. Division III semifinal against undefeated Tipp City Tippecanoe on November 7 at Wittenberg University’s Pam Evans Smith Arena. Longtime coach Mary Howard returned as an assistant under head coach Jim Maloof while senior players led the team through a tough season—winning against six league champions.  Akron Beacon Journal
