- ➤ Community groups are planning several charity events, including a CATsino Night on Nov. 22 at Medina County Community Center—where gaming tables, raffles and a buffet dinner will be offered—and a holiday luncheon fundraiser on Nov. 20 at Guy’s Party Center with raffles and a silent auction. Additional events include a Holiday Craft Show on Nov. 26, a Holiday 5K on Dec. 6, holiday home tours on Dec. 6–7 and a Women’s Endowment Fund celebration in March. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ The Akron Beacon Journal joined the Akron Children's Holiday Tree Festival by donating a tree display called Dashing Through the Years that celebrates Akron’s 200th birthday with vintage ornaments and old front pages from the paper. - ➤ Multiple holiday events are taking place in Akron and nearby towns, with the McDowell-Phillips House Museum Holiday Open House in Medina running today and the Holiday Tree Festival at John S. Knight Center continuing until Nov. 23 to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital—later events include a Holiday Parade and a Deck the Hall display featuring over 1 million lights. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Akron native Patrick Carney of The Black Keys spoke on November 14 at the City Club of Cleveland and said rising ticket fees—now reaching $25 for what once cost less—are hurting the profit of tours. - ➤ House Bill 437 would require student athletes to get heart screenings when they have their physical exams. The bipartisan measure, sponsored by Tristan Rader—D from Lakewood and Jean Schmidt—R from Loveland, is now under review in committee meetings and may help spot heart problems early. FOX 8
- ➤ Ohioans will pay more for health insurance in 2026—federal tax credits for ACA coverage will end soon, causing rates to jump by about 30% on the federal marketplace compared with 17% in state-run systems.
