BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mark Day of Indigo Lake Sauce spoke at Northside Marketplace in Akron today about his sauces and plans for Small Business Saturday—he said the event will boost local business and draw more shoppers.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Today, local small businesses in Greater Akron host free events for Small Business Saturday—shops offer samples, sales, classes, and crafts along with football screenings, tree-lighting ceremonies, and ice skating.   • Walmart closed on Thanksgiving (November 27) but reopened at 6 a.m. on November 28 for Black Friday deals that run in-store and online through November 30, with Cyber Monday sales set to begin online on Dec. 1. The sale events started online on November 25 and offer thousands of discounts under $20 at its 138 Ohio supercenters.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Families in Greater Akron can see festive Christmas light displays across Northeast Ohio, with venues like the Akron Zoo and Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens offering evening shows. Local drive-thru displays run from late November through early January with varying entry prices, giving visitors many ways to enjoy the season.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Firestone student Troy Weiss was flown to New York on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about local costume designer Paul Tazewell—an award-winning artist known for his work on Wicked and Hamilton. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT crews worked overtime on November 28th to clear roads as winter weather persisted and disrupted travel conditions. The department said it will monitor the situation and may deploy additional resources if needed.  Cleveland 19 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, November 28, Akron-area teams Walsh Jesuit and CVCA played in separate state semifinal football games — Walsh Jesuit in Division II and CVCA in Division III — to earn a chance to advance. The winners will meet in championship games scheduled Dec. 4-6 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton — a move that sets their path toward the state title.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Akron Zips men's basketball team finished second at Paradise Jam after wins over Iona and Evansville and a close loss to Yale, and they will play Milwaukee at 7 p.m. today at Rhodes Arena. Coach John Groce said the team scored high but lacked defensive focus+ a factor they plan to address in the upcoming game.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Walsh Jesuit played Avon in the OHSAA Division II state semifinal at the University of Akron on November 28 at 7 p.m.—the Warriors aimed to earn their first state final berth since 1999.  Akron Beacon Journal
