- ➤ ACCESS, a Summit County homeless shelter for women and children, received a record $1.2 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund to boost shelter beds and services — the grant will be used over the next five years to help families in need. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Summit County Animal Control announced a holiday adoption special that offered dogs for $28 instead of $94 from December 1 to January 6 — the fee covers microchipping, treatments and a dog license. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with weekend appointments available. News 5 Cleveland

- ➤ Evanescence will perform at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls on July 30 as part of their 2026 world tour with special guests Spiritbox and Nova Twins + tickets go on sale to the general public on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. WKYC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State departments including the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Ohio Department of Aging have joined forces for Older Driver Safety Awareness Week to help older drivers drive safely and consider evaluations when needed. Officials say older residents should discuss concerns with professionals and take advantage of available driving courses — guidance aimed at reducing traffic risks and maintaining independence. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ohio experts warned that shoveling snow poses serious risks to the heart for adults over 45 and those with heart conditions, citing past data (over 200,000 emergency visits and 1,600 deaths) and advising residents to use ergonomic tools and take breaks. Snowfall totals reached up to six inches in Pioneer and four to five inches in parts of Northeast Ohio last weekend, and residents are urged to clear snow safely. Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ The Akron Zips soccer team beat Duke 2-0 on Nov. 30 and will play Saint Louis at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament— the 14-seed earned wins over Notre Dame and Duke and had a 3-0 win over Saint Louis at FirstEnergy Stadium. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Analysts are debating whether the Browns should choose Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza—who will play in the Big Ten Championship on Dec. 6—or Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson to improve an offense that has struggled with three different starters this season. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Today, the Browns have decided to keep rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders as the starter for the rest of the season after his strong play kept the team in the game against the 49ers.
