- ➤ The Slovak J Club at 485 Morgan Ave continues to celebrate Akron’s heritage with monthly dinners, weekly fish fries and bowling evenings. Originally an ethnic club, it now welcomes all members as it preserves rich traditions (jednota means unity). Signal Akron

- ➤ Dreams Academy, a new private school that opened in August in Akron, is one of 23 contenders for the Yass Prize — a $1 million award given Thursday in Washington, D.C, as it focuses on academic achievement and social and emotional growth for young boys. News 5 Cleveland
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ RTA will waive fares on Direct, ADA + SCAT rides for December to support holiday transit riders. The free rides include the x61 Northcoast Express to Cleveland. Akron Beacon Journal
- ➤ Legal expert Sarah Cole explained that Ohio homeowners are not liable if someone slips on snow and ice naturally collected on sidewalks, although some local ordinances require removal (as seen in Columbus). Homeowners should check local codes to know their duties during winter. WKYC

- ➤ More than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese sold at Target and Walmart are being recalled for possible metal fragments, according to the FDA. The products from The Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc. in Hiram should be thrown away or returned for a refund. Cleveland 19 News
- ➤ On Dec. 3, Akron Children’s developmental pediatrician Jessica Foster stated that vaccines do not cause autism, as multiple studies discredit the old myth, and urged parents to consult their pediatricians for vaccine advice (the 1998 study was retracted). Akron Beacon Journal

- ➤ The Browns' new stadium near Hopkins Airport may cause heavy traffic — local officials are reviewing plans to ease congestion as the project develops. Cleveland 19 News
- ➤ On Dec. 3, greater Akron high school football players signed national letters of intent with NCAA Division I schools, including standouts from Archbishop Hoban and Walsh Jesuit.
