  • Local Akron superstar LeBron James partnered with Amazon in a Holiday Giving Program — donating over 1 million products to families and supporting charities like Operation Breakthrough and Baby2Baby.   • An Akron woman won $390,000 in cash from the Ohio Lottery’s Lucky for Life draw on Nov. 30 after buying her ticket at Acme Fresh Market on West Market Street, and she received $284,213 after taxes.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Joe Vassalotti will retire as coordinator of athletics at Akron Public Schools on Dec. 30 after over 10 years in the role, having launched student leadership workshops and the APS Hall of Fame. Colleagues praised his mentorship during a 34-year career in education.  Akron Beacon Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Akron Mayor Shammas Malik unveiled the new city logo at the bicentennial closing ceremony Saturday; it was designed by local firm Pritt Entertainment Group (after months of community engagement) and will replace the former Rubberworker symbol as Akron’s official insignia.  News 5 Cleveland

SPORTS NEWS

  • Akron's men's soccer team lost 3-2 to Saint Louis on Dec. 6 in an NCAA Tournament match after midfielder Matt Dreas received a red card in the 62nd minute. The Zips led 2-0 at halftime but the card shifted momentum, allowing Saint Louis to tie and score the game-winner.  Akron Beacon Journal
