- ➤ Residents can clear criminal records with free help from the University of Akron law school’s clinics at 150 University Ave (phone 330-972-7751) and other local programs that assist with record sealing and expungement. The law school’s next clinic is Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. Signal Akron
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Two Akron teachers, Dick Sapronetti and Gordon Oster, created a novelty deodorant called Mafia Protection in December 1975 to stop bad smells and sold out quickly. They later expanded their products with cologne, a board game and jeans while keeping their teaching and house painting jobs. Akron Beacon Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Akron unveiled a new city logo on Dec. 6 in Perkins Square to close its bicentennial celebration and replace the old rubberworker design. The logo—featuring a blimp, great blue heron, buckeye trees, and skyline—reflects community input and was funded with $50,000 from the 2025 budget. Signal Akron
- ➤ Local authors Tom Allio, David DiDomenico, and Don Ursetti share North Hill memories in the new book The Goomba Chronicles, filled with nostalgic Italian American tales.
