  • Forty-six new Americans took the citizenship oath in an Akron ceremony on Monday, Dec. 8, marking a milestone for the community. Local officials praised the event as an important step in welcoming new residents.  Cleveland 19 News

  • Farhad Sethna, a Cuyahoga Falls immigration lawyer and UA law instructor, works with clients facing uncertainty and rising family stress amid government interference. Akron-based Acme Fresh Market closed its Parma store on Dec. 1 as it reduced winter hours + its pharmacy will operate until Dec. 15.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Akron art professor Dave Szalay has had his first book that he both authored and illustrated, 'Take Back My Yak,' acquired by Penguin Random House, and it will be released in Spring 2027.  Signal Akron

FINANCE NEWS

  • A lottery ticket from Acme Fresh Market on West Market Street won $390,000 in the November 30 drawing. The winner chose the cash option and received over $280,000.  iHeartMedia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • GPD Group is partnering with the city to expand its downtown headquarters by acquiring the Spaghetti Warehouse and nearby Goodrich Buildings (this move could add 120 jobs) pending a Dec. 15 City Council vote.  Akron Beacon Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marcus Wattley returns to St. Vincent-St. Mary as head coach after previously leading the football team in 2016-2017. He will be tasked with turning around the Irish program, which has had three head coaches since 2018 — officials say his extensive experience may help the team.  Akron Beacon Journal
