  • The Akron-Canton Airport revamped its sensory room in partnership with the Wolff & Phan Autism Center on Dec. 10 to offer children with sensory challenges a calming, interactive space. The facility now features a state-of-the-art game projector and tactile wall art as part of its Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Ridge & Rail (housed in a renovated 1930 rubber shop) offers fast-casual dining in Sharon Township with pizzas, salads and sandwiches made from locally sourced ingredients. The family-owned restaurant now serves full service and will host live music and kids’ pizza-making workshops to bring the community together.  Akron Beacon Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kent's Ohio Krampus Society is raising funds for charity while dispelling myths of the true Alpine legend with a costume that features hand-carved masks (from Austria) and a yak fur rug. Krampus will appear at Hudson Christkindlmarkt on Dec. 12 to 14 and at Reinecker's Bakery Christmas Market on Dec. 19 to 20.  Akron Beacon Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Thirteen local polymer projects will share $6 million from the state + $2 million match over the next four years via the Greater Akron Polymer Innovation Hub. The funding supports eight Synthe6 projects and five new proposals selected at University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University to boost innovation.  Akron Beacon Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts advise Ohio pet owners to shorten dog walks when temperatures drop to 32 degrees later this week as snow and cold set in; walks for small or delicate breeds should last 15 to 30 minutes maximum (to prevent frostbite and hypothermia).  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Hudson River Foods recalled 12-ounce packages of Doughy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough sold in Ohio and 14 other states due to potential salmonella contamination affecting items with a best-by date of July 4.   • OPSMA released the 2025 All-Ohio high school football teams for Division II and III on Wednesday, Dec. 10 after state championships in Canton (a media panel chose the players). Division I will be released today.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • The Akron RubberDucks were sold to new owners on Dec. 10—new investors plan changes to boost the team and local sports scene.  Cleveland 19 News
  • Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start for the rest of the season and focuses on his next game against the Chicago Bears on Dec. 14. He said he will work hard in practice (building team chemistry is his main goal) as he prepares for the contest.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Yesterday, the RubberDucks in Akron announced new ownership — the Prospector Baseball Group will take over the team after longtime owner Ken Babby left to lead the Tampa Bay Rays’ group.  iHeartMedia
