  • Eighteen downtown bars and restaurants will host the Holiday Spirits Bar Crawl on Dec. 27 from 5 to 10 p.m. in Akron, offering signature holiday cocktails, festive photo ops, live music, free shuttle service and special ticket pricing; proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Girl Scout cookie season in Western Ohio begins January 7, 2026 and will run through March, offering a mix of classic and new flavors with prices typically ranging from $5 to $7 (prices vary by troop).  WKYC
  • Metropolis Popcorn in Cuyahoga Falls is partnering with actor Zack Ward to offer custom Scut Farkus popcorn tins for charity — supporting Good Neighbors, Inc. The tins are available for purchase today at locations in Cuyahoga Falls and Hudson.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Michael Allio, co-founder of St. James Therapeutics and former reality TV star, lives in Akron with his girlfriend and 9-year-old son as he expands his local skincare business and plans to release a children's book in February.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Fairlawn-based Sequoia Financial Group acquired Pasadena’s Sterling Financial Group, an independent advisory firm with a seven-member team, at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 22. The deal establishes Sequoia’s first standalone office in California and marks its 11th acquisition since 2023.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Local groups will host Kwanzaa events in Akron from Friday, Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Akron NAACP lead daily celebrations centered on the seven Nguzo Saba principles at various community venues.  Signal Akron

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Demarkus Minter became the first inmate at Summit County Jail to earn a high school diploma through the Career Prep+ program on Dec. 18. Officials say his milestone shows the value of education and note that he now plans to enroll in college courses at Stark State College.  Akron Beacon Journal

  • Ohio Lottery officials confirmed that a ticket sold at Tallmadge Speedway matched all five white balls on Saturday night, awarding the winner $1 million.  iHeartMedia
