About this event
Open Trail Collective is excited to host a family-friendly guided walk at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, one of our favorite places to hike, explore, and learn! It will take place at 10AM-12PM on Friday 11/13.
We will walk with the naturalist for the first hour and then have the second hour to snack and to explore.
This walk will be guided by one of Summit Metropark's naturalists as we explore the trails and learn about the animals and ecosystem of this 104-acre natural area. Come early or stay late to explore their hiking trails, walking paths, several ponds and gardens, a prairie, an arboretum featuring more than 300 species of shrubs and trees, and a visitor center (opens at 10AM). We will provide light refreshments afterwards.
TERRAIN:
We will walk the Cherry Lane Trail. This is an easy-to-travel loop which includes a 110-foot-long suspension bridge, taking visitors over a 45-foot-deep ravine. The scenic trail travels past Echo Pond before returning you to an accessible trail near the visitors center.
*This trail is not stroller friendly
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Bring grandma, cousins, friends, whomever! No family? No problem! This hike is geared towards kids but open to anyone who wants to join.
RESTROOMS:
Restrooms are available near the nature center. We will stop at the restrooms on our way to the hike.
WHAT TO BRING:
• Water,
• Walking shoes or boots,
• A carrier for littles as this trail isn't stroller-friendly.
• Weather appropriate clothes
TIPS FOR DRESSING IN COLD WEATHER:
Your cold-weather layering system should include a base-layer (moisture wicking and on the skin), a mid-layer (warm and fluffy) and an outer-layer (a wind/weather proof shell. The base-layer wicks sweat away from your body to keep you comfortable (wool, silk, nylon, fleece, polyester, bamboo). The mid-layer traps heat to keep you warm (neoprene, fleece, or wool). And the outer-layer/shell protects you from the elements (rain coat or winter coat). Combined, these three layers help you stay warm, dry and comfortable. It is best to avoid cotton clothing and cotton socks. Make sure you are also considering warm hats, gloves, scarf/buff, socks, and boots!
CANCELLATIONS:
No refund can be issued within 72 hours of the adventure. Please let us know if you can no longer attend the adventure, even if it is within the 72 hours window.
