2nd Annual Gear Swap (9AM - 12PM)

About this event

Join OTC, Take a Hike Resale Shop, and Rockmill Climbing's Basecamp Coffee for our 2nd Annual Gear Swap. This is a great way to give new life to your old gear by swapping it out and getting something new to you! This is also a great place to get some holidays gifts while booting the big box billionares outta your life. Save some money, too!

Folks that drop off items to swap will get priority in swapping from 9-10 AM on Saturday 12/5. If you didn't bring gear to swap, you can buy items at the door for $5 per item starting at 10AM.

Funds raised during this event will help Open Trail Collective in their mission to promote adventure in Northeast Ohio while advocating for a more inclusive, accessible, and collaborative outdoor industry.

We are accepting outdoor gear for all season and for all ages. Vintage and modern, as long as it is clean and in good shape.

Please drop off your outdoor gear and clothing at Rockmill from 11/30-12/4 during regular business hours. Items can be picked up in the Akron area that week upon request.

NOTE: We will not be doing a ticket system in 2026. We will simply keep track of items donated and check the list when you arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• How does the gear swap work? If you dropped off gear earlier in the week, we’ll make a note and you can pick up the same number of items during the swap. If you didn’t drop off gear, no problem! Items can be purchased for $5 per item.

• What happens to my stuff after the swap if it's not swapped, do I get it back? If it doesnt get swapped then gear will get donated or sold and the profits will go to OTC. If someone really wants it back they can be there at 12PM when we close and grab it.

• Is all gear considered equal? I get a ticket for a sweater and a set of boots equally? We dont want Rockmill staff verifying quantity and quality of gear. We honestly dont care if anyone pays anything and hope everyone gets the gear and goodies they need. SO, when you drop off your swappable gear, you tell them how many tickets you want in exchange! Easy peasy.

• Can I swap my skis here? Sure! Though please note that you get just one item in exchange. If that doesnt feel like a fair exchange to you then consider selling on FB Marketplace or other secondhand resellers!

• What kind of gear is accepted? Check out this document for swappable ideas!
