ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, a chemical leak at the University of Akron's Sidney L. Olson Research Center prompted Akron Fire Department hazmat personnel to use specialized equipment, transport one person to a nearby hospital, and check for contamination risks.  Akron Beacon Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • MGM Northfield Park Racino is now the Northfield Park Racino as Clairvest Group Inc. takes over and will close temporarily from April 20 to 22 for transition work; horse racing, scheduled shows and most restaurants will continue operating.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Hoppin' Frog Brewery celebrated its 20th anniversary in Akron on April 15 (now adding Sunday brunch) as it evolves from a traditional brewhouse to offer more dining options.  Akron Beacon Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Springfield Local Schools Board ratified a revised collective bargaining agreement with the local teaching union on April 7, setting a three-year contract (Aug. 2025 to Aug. 2028) that replaces base raises with staggered stipends. The board also approved one retirement and three pending teacher hires.  Akron.com

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • With warm weather returning, local anglers can fish at several Summit County spots including Summit Lake, Nimisila Reservoir, and Little Turtle Pond (youth fishing requires adult assistance). Anglers age 16 and older require an Ohio fishing license.  Akron Beacon Journal
