  • Akron will host a reception at Kerr Park, located at 964 Nome Ave, on May 10 from noon to 3 p.m. to celebrate park upgrades funded by the Akron Parks Challenge. The event will feature music, food trucks, free tennis and pickleball lessons and speeches from local leaders—and improvements that include resurfaced courts, an upgraded walkway, new furnishings, landscaping and banners.  Cleveland.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Akron police arrested two men—Anthony D. Fields 54 and Kurth M. Conaway 34—on charges of abuse of a corpse after human remains identified as Xavier Menefee's were found in a homeless encampment on May 2.  Akron Beacon Journal
  • Early Monday, a suspect in a stolen SUV repeatedly rammed a car and struck police cruisers near an apartment complex on Tate Terrace, causing a gas line rupture that led to an evacuation before he was pinned against a tree and arrested—31-year-old Mikal Gamble now faces charges including felonious assault and resisting arrest.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Akron-Summit County Public Library levy was approved by voters on May 6 with 68.32% support, set to raise $160 million for repairs and updates at 18 branches. Starting next year, property taxes will increase by $35 per $100,000 of home value, with bonds planned for sale by year-end to finance the work—ensuring better facilities for residents.  Signal Akron
