- ➤ At around 3:10 a.m. on July 7 a mass shooting at Mason Community Learning Center in Akron left five people shot and at least 10 injured as vehicles fled in chaos—officials and community leaders urged stricter gun safety laws, expanded youth programs and enforcement of the 11 p.m. curfew for minors to address rising youth gun violence. - ➤ Akron’s Italian American Festival is underway downtown at Lock 3 and will run until July 12 — the event, organized by the Council of Italian American Societies, offers Italian food, live music, and fireworks with free admission and parking available after 6 p.m. on select days. - ➤ Akron officials approved a draft housing plan on June 13 — a 2025‑2029 action plan that aims to repair aging homes and boost economic opportunities for low‑income residents. City Council will meet on Monday, July 14 at 1 p.m., hold a public hearing at 5 p.m. and vote at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, and residents may attend in person or online. Signal Akron
