- ➤ Barberton will host its annual Mum Festival Saturday, Sept. 27 to Sunday, Sept. 28 around Lake Anna with 17,000 mums in a 'Catch the Buzz. Bee There' theme and family activities planned. - ➤ At a Sept. 22 meeting, Akron City Council voted 11-0 to approve a certificate of appropriateness to demolish the historic Firestone plant at 1200 Firestone Parkway if no viable redevelopment plan is presented within 60 days — council members emphasized efforts to preserve the landmark before demolition proceeds.
