If you live in Barberton, Norton or Tallmadge, your school income tax question got an answer Tuesday. Based on unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections, Barberton voters rejected a 1% earned income tax and Norton voters rejected a 0.75% one. Tallmadge voters approved a 1% tax. Barberton is already in a state of fiscal emergency, and its district said major cuts would be needed if the levy failed.

Safety levies fared better. Mogadore voters approved a fire and EMS levy that renews 3.5 mills and adds 1.23, and Springfield Twp. voters approved a 0.5- police levy. The Beacon Journal's results roundup also lists Cuyahoga Falls and Stow-Munroe Falls as passing.

  • Tallmadge income tax: starts Jan. 1, 2027
  • Mogadore fire and EMS levy: five years, starting in 2027
  • Springfield Twp. police levy: runs five years

Wadsworth City Schools voters rejected an income tax increase. District officials will have to revisit finances and consider additional budget cuts.

What the two approved safety levies cost homeowners

$135
a year per $100,000 of home value for Mogadore's fire and EMS levy
4.73 mills
total for Mogadore's renewal and increase
$18
more a year per $100,000 of home value for Springfield Twp. police
