Akron veteran Johnnie Downs received the Order of St. Maurice medal this year for his long career preparing National Guard recruits for military service—he now spends his time guiding fellow veterans and supporting memorial projects that honor their legacy.

His award reflects a lifetime of teaching essential skills both in combat and in life.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear an appeal from two investor-owned utilities, letting stand a ruling that saves over 2 million Ohioans an estimated $400 million on electric bills by 2031.

The decision directs federal regulators to reverse extra surcharges for roughly 3 million customers of FirstEnergy & Duke Energy, which may lead to refunds.

Summit County Public Health inspected many food-serving locations in October and found several restaurants had six or more critical violations, with Oak and Embers Tavern in Hudson reporting eight issues — many of which were corrected during the inspection.

The results could lead to stricter actions if unresolved problems persist.
